Urge Gov Sununu to empower women and protect lives by signing HB1607

By July 22, 20242 Comments

The NH Safe Haven law currently allows a parent to give up a child they don’t feel ready to raise for any reason in the first 7 days of the child’s life by dropping him/her off at any manned hospital, fire station, police station, or church. The law was created to address an epidemic of infant homicides that were happening in the 80s and 90s, and the stats show it has been working!

HB1607 is a bipartisan bill that expands our Safe Haven law by extending when a parent can drop a child off to 2 months, allowing for baby boxes, and by ensuring that evidence of a crime gathered from the parent dropping the child off can’t be used against them.

This last part has been the source of some controversy, however we believe the highest priority is ensuring a child is safe. If a parent thinks they might be prosecuted for dropping their child off, they may resort to more desperate measures.

Please contact Gov Sununu and ask him to sign HB1607!

You can call his office at (603) 271-2121, or contact him online. Be sure to mention what town you are from.
