Take Action!
The next step in the process to protecting the good work of New Hampshire’s Pregnancy Help Centers is a decision by the State Senate’s Judiciary Committee on whether they will recommend passing it. They need your encouragement to support these protections. Please help in any way you feel led:
-
- Let Governor Ayotte & your Senator know you support our pregnancy centers by visiting this page hosted by our friends at March for Life Action!
- Spread the word through email, word of mouth, or social media!
- Pray that God would move the hearts of Governor Ayotte & the Senate to pass HB1416 to protect the work of pregnancy centers
What are Pregnancy Help Centers?
New Hampshire’s 19 Pregnancy Help Centers (PHCs) are charities that help thousands of pregnant mothers, children, and fathers each year. They can provide diapers, strollers, baby clothes, counseling, ultrasounds, parenting classes, and even housing. And they provide it all at no cost to the family!
The value of their services exceeds $1.5m every year, and no state or federal tax dollars are used!
Why do we need to protect PHCs?
Even though pro-choice politicians should be in favor supporting a mother’s choice for Life, many blue states see PHCs as a threat to their abortion businesses rather than charities providing free assistance to pregnant mothers and their children. These states use government to do things like force PHCs to refer for abortion against their will, censor them from discussing Abortion Pill Reversal, or hire people who disagree with their mission.
Read more about these attacks in the written testimony from the lawyers at Americans United for Life.
As a purple state, New Hampshire is one election away from having politicians that try to shut down PHCs. We cannot afford to lose them!
The Pregnancy Resource Center Freedom of Expression Act (HB1416) protects New Hampshire PHCs by restricting several forms of discrimination seen in other states.
Attacks in New Hampshire
While some say there’s no reason to think that the government attacks against PHCs seen across the country (including 3 New England states) won’t happen here, several Democrat politicians in New Hampshire have indicated otherwise. In the 2024 election, 2 prominent Democrat candidates targeted PHCs in their campaign: Congresswoman Maggie Goodlander (CD-2), and Governor candidate Joyce Craig.
On top of that, 2 Democrat State Representatives (while arguing why the bill was unnecessary) made the case for why we need these protections during the exec committee hearing for HB1416 in House Judiciary:
-
- Rep Tim Horrigan (D-Durham), an experienced representative serving his 16th year in the House, said he “often thought there should be some sort of regulation, but I haven’t really been sure of what or how”.
- Rep Zoe Manos (D-Stratham) said that she wants to require medical personnel who receive referrals from PHCs to promote abortion even if that violates their conscience.
This is in addition to the physical attacks seen across the nation, including one that happened to a Littleton, NH PHC.
