Essay Details
Real Options is a pregnancy assistance center in Manchester and Nashua. They hosted an essay contest for high school students with the following theme:
Think of someone you appreciate, whose unique qualities have impacted your own life and then write an essay about why you are glad that person was born.
Walter A. was the winner this year, and we received permission from his family to post it. (We did edit it slightly with headings, but the essay is not changed.)
Her Infinite Value
To prove the value of life, I would like to tell you about a person who is very dear to me. This person is kind, gentle, trustworthy, devout, and pro-life. This person is loving, calm, and nurturing.
This person is the girl that God, since the beginning of time, has written into the pages of His story to be with me forever. This is the girl He has imagined to be with me, His lowly servant. This beautiful woman is the treasure who means more to me than anything in the whole world.
Every day I strive to make myself better, sinful as I am, to give this precious person the best life that I can give her, before I have even known her. The thought of this person reminds me why chastity is a virtue, why hard work is necessary, and why my faith in Jesus matters.
Although we have never met, I know that she prays for me, and it strengthens me. Believing that God will lead me to her, motivates me to wake up in the morning, and fight to give her a better world that we can live in and explore together.
God Forbid
God forbid that this wonderful person might have been aborted! God forbid that this incredible woman, would never have had the chance to show the world the gift of her soul!
God alone knows the many gifts and graces that He has given to her, because He formed her in her mother’s womb, and has counted all the hairs on her head. He knows the plans He has for her, to give her hope and a future.
My heart breaks when I imagine the millions of couples who could have turned out the way we will be, and yet, they never made it out of the womb.
I weep for the millions of families that will never exist, and their many stories which will never be told. One day, I want to be able to say, “As for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.” I want to teach my children how to pray, how to live, and how to serve God with courage.
But how can this be, if their mother is not there? One cannot imagine the many blessings and infinite worth of a good wife and mother. She is the heart of the family; she is there to mend every scraped knee, and she teaches her children how to love with agape…unconditional, whole- hearted, Jesus-like love.
Who I Value
As the father, I hope to be able to protect and guide my family. What will I do, if I do not have someone there, backing me up, catching me when I fall, and holding me amidst the dangers that will invade my adult life?
I have been asked to tell the story of a person who has dramatically influenced my life, and this is the person that I have chosen. For there is no one whom I will love more, no one whom I will trust more, and no one whom I will need more in my life than her.
Because of her, I can see the value of a single human life and I will always advocate as hard as I can for the pro- life cause so that one day no man, no woman, will ever miss the one that God has intended for them out of His infinite love and mercy.
