- Rapid brain development continues with the appearance of the cerebral hemispheres at 4 ½ weeks. Baby is approximately 1/3 inch long.
- Baby’s face is taking shape – forehead and eyes are identifiable; baby’s nose, mouth, tongue, and inner ear begin to form.
- Hand and foot plates appear.
- Thyroid gland begins to grow.
- Testicles and ovaries begin to form.
