April 21, 2014 – New Hampshire Right to Life filed a petition in the United States Supreme Court today asking the Court to review a lower court’s partial denial of a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) document request. The FOIA request pertains to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services 2011 decision to award a million dollar grant to Planned Parenthood of New England. NHRTL is asking the nation’s highest court to allow public scrutiny of the government funding of the state’s largest abortion provider.

“It is very clear that citizens deserve to know how their government spends their taxpayer dollars”, says Jane Cormier, President of NHRTL. “The public has a right to know how and why HHS justifies its funding decisions. It is our belief that the First Circuit decision ignored Supreme Court precedents in allowing HHS to keep their funding decisions from the public. It is our hope the Supreme Court will hear our case, and set this ruling aside,” says Cormier.
